Hazel Aim

As well as being an STGA Green badge holder for Orkney, I also manage a Community Interest Company (C.I.C.) and a charity.  Our C.I.C, called Orkney Community Transport Organisation (OCTO) runs coaches, buses and minibuses and was set up to develop transport services and provide an income for the charity, Orkney Disability Forum, to support their Dial-a-bus service for elderly and disabled people in Orkney.  As well as offering vehicle and driver hire from 15 seat minibuses to 53 seat coaches, we can now provide tourist guiding services as either a step on guide or with one of our vehicles.

I was born in Orkney and have lived here all of my life.  I am passionate about the place and love to share what Orkney has to offer with anyone that will listen.

I was brought up in the parish of Orphir, where my school class had only 4 pupils and then moved to Kirkwall as an adult.  I am married to an Orcadian and we have 3 teenagers, all of whom are very interested in traditional music and all play instruments.  I have lots of childhood memories from spending summer holidays playing around the Brough of Birsay where my uncle was the custodian, hunting whelks and spoots (local names for some Orkney shellfish) on our local beaches and shores and enjoying dancing at our local Harvest Home and Ceilidhs.

Orkney has so much to offer for history lovers, from the very ancient to the more recent wartime; nature lovers; artists, who are often inspired by our beautiful landscape, wonderful skies and strong musical heritage and food and drink lovers, with our high quality gastronomic delights.  We have set tours or I am happy to design an itinerary for you based around your interests or be led by you if you have your own ideas.  Being part of an organisation, we have many other guides on our books and so I can recommend others who have particular skills or languages in order to best meet our visitors’ needs.
