Nick Cook

I would always hope to accommodate your particular interests (and energy levels!). I studied Countryside Management in Aberdeen and lived in Edinburgh, where I worked as a guide in the Scotch Whisky industry. But city life was not my cup of tea, so I returned to Orkney. Here in Orkney I have worked at several of our chambered tombs, as well as a guide for larger groups, cruise ships and tour buses.

I have always been very interested in history and here in Orkney we have a fantastic array of historical sites strewn across the islands - not many people can claim to have an Iron Age fort in a field next to their garden! In addition to the great outdoors, there are Orkney’s historical towns of Kirkwall and Stromness, witnesses to Orkney’s Viking and fishing past, each attractive in its own way.

Brought up walking the family dog with my Dad and exploring the remote corners of Orkney, I am keen on hiking in the outdoors. Orkney has fantastic natural scenery to offer, and some splendid costal walks. You may set off in an anorak and be sunburnt by lunchtime; or vice versa, the weather can never make up its mind here, which is one of the many things I love about this part of the world.

So if you’re interested in me as your guide, please give me a shout.

Hello

My name is Nick and I am a STGA accredited step-on tourist guide in Orkney. I grew up in Orkney and like to think I’m easy to get along with. I don’t take myself too seriously, so I’d like to think we would have a laugh, as well as learn about Orkney’s past and present.
