Born and raised in Orkney, I left to further my studies at University in Edinburgh before joining the Metropolitan Police in London, where I spent 9 years as a ‘London Bobby’. A further 8 years Policing in Edinburgh followed before the strong urge to return ‘home’ became irresistible and in 2004, I returned to Orkney where I subsequently held the position of Area Commander with Police Scotland until my recent retirement.

 

I am passionate about all things Orcadian, not least our wealth of history and archaeology, much of which demonstrates the innovative nature and perseverance of our ancestors, a quality still prevalent today within our island communities.

 

My ‘Orcadian’ roots and previous role has enabled me to develop a wealth of valuable local contacts across Orkney and I feel extremely privileged to be able to use my passion, knowledge and skills to share with others, Orkney’s amazing treasures and provide visitors and guests with an enhanced and authentic experience.

I am a qualified and accredited Scottish Tourist Guide Association Green Badge Guide and operate as a driver-guide with my own business ‘GoOrkney’ offering Luxury Guided Tours to discerning leisure and corporate visitors.
